Henry VIII (1491–1547) became King of England in 1509 at age 17. A charismatic and athletic young ruler, he was well-educated and eager to prove himself. Shortly after his coronation, he married Catherine of Aragon, his brother's widow, solidifying England's alliance with Spain.
